Walker Withdraws Nomination Of UW Student For Board Of Regents

By

Governor Scott Walker has confirmed that his office pulled the nomination of a University of Wisconsin-Platteville student for the board of regents.

The student signed a petition to recall the governor two years ago.

Governor Walker refused to say if the nomination of Josh Inglett was pulled because the student signed the petition. The governor said another student nominee to the UW System Board of Regents will be submitted to the Senate for confirmation.

“I don’t recall as to whether he applied or someone recommended him. But there are a number of people who seek that position out.”

Sen. Jon Erpenbach, D-Middleton, is a member of the Universities and Technical Colleges Committee. He talked to Inglett today, who said he was told by the governor’s staff last night that his nomination was being pulled. The reason given was that it would be hard to get through the Republican-controlled Senate.

Erpenbach wrote the governor asking him to reconsider the decision.

“It shouldn’t matter if he did or didn’t. It makes it sound like the governor’s keeping this black list in his office, and if your name is on that recall petition you are disqualified from serving the state in any capacity whatsoever. And that’s McCarthyism.”

Sen. Dale Schultz, R-Richland Center, has also asked the governor to reconsider.
