Romney Visits Wisconsin, Hits Obama on Jobs

Mitt Romney made his first campaign appearance in Wisconsin in more than two months today, as spoke at State Fair Park in West Allis.The Republican presidential candidate tried to attack President Obama’s jobs record.

The Romney campaign has let vice-presidential candidate Paul Ryan make most of the GOP ticket’s appearances in Wisconsin. But with the Romney and Ryan partnership down a few points in most polls, the former Massachusetts governor gave what he called his closing arguments on the campaign.Romney highlighted new federal unemployment numbers for October, which show the jobless rate rising one-tenth of a percent to 7.9 percent. Romney says that’s part of President Obama’s record of broken promises.

“He said he was going to focus on creatingjobs.Instead, he focused on Obamacare, which killedjobs.He said he was going to cut the federal deficit in half, and then he doubled it. He said he was going to lower the unemployment rate, down to 5.2 percent. Today we learned that it is actually 7.9 percent.”

Romney never mentioned that 175-thousand jobs were added last month or the labor department’s report that the jobless rate inched up because more people were actively looking for work again.Milwaukee County Supervisor John Weishan was part of the Democrats’ response team to Romney.Weishan says Romney left out some key facts.

“To claim one statistic has dipped or moved in one direction or the other doesn’t tell the complete story.”

Weishan says the jobs picture isn’t brightening fast enough for anyone. But he argues the Republican-led House of Representatives has blocked the president’s plans for boosting the economy.Mitt Romney argued today that he’d take a bi-partisan approach to helping businesses create jobs.
