Governor Walker has his first official challenger for re-election next year. Democrat Mary Burke ended months of speculation this morning when she released a video on You Tube officially announcing her plans to run.
She's a former executive for Trek Bicycle, and the daughter of the company's founder. She also served as Commerce Secretary under former Governor Jim Doyle.
Burke touts her Wisconsin roots, and her business background in the video:
Burke: “When you look at states like Minnesota, Indiana, and Ohio, you wonder what the heck's goin' on. Because Wisconsin ranks 45th out of 50 states in projected job growth — sixth from the bottom. I'm running for governor because we can do better than that — a lot better.”
Governor Walker is running for re-election. Democratic State Senator Kathleen Vinehout says she'll make a decision whether to run shortly after the first of next year.
