Environmental groups are making their endorsement in the race for governor. They back Democrat Tom Barrett.
The Clean Wisconsin Action Fund has endorsed Milwaukee Mayor Barrett. So has the Sierra Club and the League of Conservation Voters. Many environmentalists endorsed Kathleen Falk in the Democratic recall primary. But Amber Meyer Smith of Clean Wisconsin says her group is happy now to back Barrett.
Smith says looking ahead, she believes Barrett would restore increases in the ratepayer funded focus on energy program that helps pay for energy efficiency and renewable energy projects. The environmental groups criticize the record of Gov. Walker and his DNR Secretary Cathy Stepp --alleging poor enforcement of environmental laws. Scott Manley of Wisconsin Manufacturers and Commerce praises the DNR and Gov. Walker, for recently acting quickly to get most of southeast Wisconsin off a federal list of areas with too much ozone pollution.
The business group has not made an endorsement in the governor's race, but is paying for independent ads that back Walker's record on jobs and the state budget.
