Duffy: Democratic Party In ‘Disarray’

Wisconsin U.S. Rep. Sean Duffy is calling out Democrats for “disarray” at their party convention.

Duffy, who spoke at last week’s Republican National Convention, pointed to protesting and booing by some Bernie Sanders supporters at the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia as evidence of fracture within the party.

“Take a step back and take a look at the Democratic convention last night, and the conversations we’ve had about unity in the Republican Party and the Democratic Party, and it’s pretty clear the Democratic Party is in disarray,” Duffy said on a press call with reporters Monday.

Some Sanders supporters were vocal about their displeasure with the Democratic National Committee during the first day of the party’s convention, reacting to leaked emails that showed bias against Sanders’ presidential campaign during Democratic primaries.

Duffy, who called the actions of Sanders supporters a “mass revolt” and said Sanders “left his supporters high and dry” by endorsing Clinton, said the Republican Party is much more unified.

However, according to the latest Marquette University poll conducted earlier this month, only 5 percent of Wisconsin Republicans believe their party is unified, compared to 39 percent of Democrats.

Duffy also weighed in on his transition from opposing to supporting GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump.

A backer of former presidential hopeful Marco Rubio during the Republican presidential primaries, Duffy said a behind-the-scenes view of the Trump campaign persuaded him. He was impressed by Trump’s advisors, as well as Trump’s existing knowledge base and ability to get up to speed on public policy.

“He’s a fast learner and has done very well with it,” Duffy said. “So the concerns I had earlier have been dissipated.”

The Democratic National Convention will continue in Philadelphia through Thursday.
